The Two Primary Types of Resumes
The Chronological Resume – this is the most common type of resume and is used by most job seekers.
- The reason is simple: Chronological Resumes are easy to compose because their organization is predetermined by your job history. In other words, you list your employment history chronologically beginning with your last job.
- It is important to note: This is the type of resume preferred by most employers.
The Functional Resume – used primarily when there are major time gaps in your employment history or you have a wide range of experience but are lacking a specific focus. Instead of focusing on your employment history it highlights your skills.
- There are two sections to a functional resume.
- In the first section you may list the experience and skills that relate to the position which you are pursuing.
- The second section will provide the places and dates where you have worked.
It is important to note that many potential employers do not look favorably on a functional resume.
